Richmond Soul 45's part 3

Well - I hate to say I saved the best for last but I feel like I did this time. Not only does it have one of the best label designs of any 45 I've come across I don't feel like it's gotten it's due in the realm of local 45's that people are after. Maybe this will change that! Amazing soul - some might call it Northern Soul but I don't have the time or energy to classify it under anything other then simply funk or soul. See for yourself! Soul Disciples on the Phantom label out of good ol' Richmond!

Richmond Soul 45's Part 2

So the second 45 is actually from Richmond without a doubt - The Soul Pushers on Ambush records. Wish I knew more about this one but I don't. The vinyl is a little noisy but I have no idea why as it's pretty much an unplayed copy. The second side of this 45 is where it's at! Check it!

Richmond Soul 45's

Ok - back after a bit of a break and decided to upload some more local stuff - this time out of Richmond. Rather then post some of the bigger records that are fairly well known I decided to share three that are a little more obscure. The first is a 45 by the Banks Bros on the Consolidated label. Although it's not from Richmond - but somewhere outside the DC area from what I gather - it's close enough I thought I'd throw it in. From what I know it was apparently put out by an actual bank - I have no idea if it was just backed by the bank or put out as an actual promotional item but it's still pretty odd. Didn't even like the tune at first but now it's grown on me - check it!

Jade - In Pursuit LP

Well it's been a minute - but well worth the wait. Here, in it's entire glory, is the legendary and much sought after soul/funk Lp out of Norfolk - Jade "In Pursuit" on Pesante! The group put out two 45's I know of - maybe three. One, Paper Man, was featured on the Black Chains & Exhaust comp and the other was for the track Music Slave - which is the most well known cut off the album. Wanted to ever get a copy? Good luck! At least now you can hear the entire record without shelling out the cash! Pretty amazed the record didn't get more circulation then it did - it certainly wasn't for lack of killer tunes. Enjoy!

Back in action...

It's been a while but I've got a ton of stuff in the works so regular and much more frequent updates are on the way! In the meantime - here's one of my favorite early hip hop/disco rap 12"s that's not very easy to come by! Check it! Big update next week.

Part 4

Ok - so this is the last of the reggae 45's for now. Not sure what I'm going to put up next but I'll have it up by Thursday!

I had to put up one more Burning Spear 45 - chose Marcus Garvey because it's a killer tune and slightly different than the version released on the Lp. Listen closely and you'll hear little parts that didn't make it onto the more popular track.

The last 45 I saved until now is another one I was unable to track down much info on other than it's on a handful of comps. Backed by the Aggrovators it's Jerry Lewis' "The Organization" - I suspect there's a Lee Perry connection as one of his biggest songs "Burning Wire" was co-written with him and the Aggrovators backed him quite a bit. Not much he didn't have his hand in! Anyhow - check the tune!
